Adopted for 2009
All of my fosters that have shared my home in 2009 were seen safely into forever homes before the new year rang in. I have not really been able to keep up with the profiles of each kitten on this page because I had a few months with some really seriously ill kittens that it took all of my time and energy just to pull them through their illness and not lose them. Thankfully, they made it and the last one was adopted into his forever home on December 30th. I will be back with a profile of my new foster Hope, once she is closer to being available for adoption. Bye for now.
Jordan, Jack and Midnight - ADOPTED
Jordan and Jack were two feral kittens found at around 8 weeks old.
Jack is black and white with a stub tail. I do not know what happened to his tail, but it is awfully cute. Jack actually managed to stay healthy while he was with me and therefore was easier to socialize than his brother Jordan. Although, I will say that the two of them have been the hardest feral kittens to socialize that I have had so far. This is mostly because they were older than my previous feral kittens and were totally feral, not just partially feral. But, by the time he went to the shelter, Jack was sweet and loving and just loved being brushed and cuddled.
Jordan is a brown tiger kitten. He was much more difficult to socialize than his brother because he came down with an upper respiratory infection and had to have medication twice a day for a couple of weeks. He of course did not like this. No kitten does, but he was already terrified of people and needing to medicate him did not help in trying to gain his trust. For a while, I was afraid that I would need to send him to another foster home after he was well since he was growing to not like me. Thankfully he did turn around and start to be OK with me handling him and would even purr when petted. And he was so handsome, he was quickly adopted.
Midnight was an all black kitten that I took home for a week until the shelter could fit her into the surgery schedule to be spayed. She did not stay with us long, but we still consider her part of our foster family and are happy that she is now in a forever home.

Walking in Spirit - Please Sponsor Me
Anyone who reads this blog or who knows me in real life has learned by now how much I love being a foster mother to the various cats and kittens that have come through our home this year. But what many of you may not know is why I got into fostering in the first place.
Due to various health conditions, I have not been able to work since early 2005. Since I love animals and could not work, I wanted to volunteer. But I quickly found out that I was not physically up to going into the shelter even once a week because in order to drive I have to skip my medications and when I do that I am too sore and weak to be of much use at the shelter. Fostering was the perfect compromise because I could care for the foster cats at home without needing to drive very often. I was thrilled to find a way to help even with my limitations. There is just one thing that I have wanted to do for a long time and still can not do.
Many charities that I care about often have fundraising walks where people can sponsor you and then you go and walk. I am sure that you are all familiar with the concept, so I won't go into details. One walk that I really had hoped to be able to do is a walk for the shelter I foster for - The MSPCA Walk for Animals 2009. People will be walking with their dogs to raise money for the shelter.
I almost signed up to walk, but the reality is that even though it is a short walk, I am still just not physically capable of doing it. I am going to be there on the day of the walk as a volunteer because they have found me something I can do sitting down, but I was still disappointed that I could not join in the walking.
Then that made me think: I know that I am not the only one out there that can not do charity walks. There are others like me that are not up to the walking, or those who can not walk at all. People whose schedules are too busy, but wish they could find the time. And people who have cats, birds, hamsters and other pets that don't really go for a walk. So I have decide to reach out to my friends, family and cyber friends and ask you to sponsor me as I walk in spirit for this really good cause. With more and more animals being surrendered to the shelter every day due to the economy, they need help now more than ever.
To make a donation, no matter how small, please visit my participant page and donate online. The team I have joined is the Fabulous Foster Failures. Or to donate by mail, send a check to: MSPCA Walk for Animals350 S. Huntington Ave.Boston, MA, 02130 and put the team name of Fabulous Foster Failures in the note section. Thanks for your help.

Taro - ADOPTED
Taro was a kitten that got his shelter collar wrapped around his lower jaw and ended up with a mild embedded collar injury. This happened overnight at the shelter and was quickly noticed by a volunteer who was cleaning his cage in the morning. For more details about his story and collar safety, check out my main blog page. Since I happened to be at the shelter dropping off my previous fosters, Arista and Tiger on the morning his injury was discovered, I offered to take him home for the week he needed to recover.
He spent the first three days on pain medication and was very loopy, but after that his true personality came out. He was a very active, incredibly playful little guy. I knew that he would not last long once he went back to the shelter and I was right. I dropped him off late on a Thursday and when I went back shortly after opening on Saturday, he has already gone to his forever home. :)

Pixie, Duncan and Chica - Adopted
Pixie, Duncan and Chica were three slightly older kittens that came home with me because they got sick when the shelter got over crowded. I am pleased to say that they are all now healthy and in their forever homes. I will add some photos of them as soon as I get them off the camera.

Tiger - ADOPTED
Tiger is a tiny little guy. He is one of Magic's brothers so he is also 9 weeks old. But as the runt of his litter, he is much smaller than his brothers. Right now he only weighs 1lb 8oz so he has a way to go before he can be adopted. He is easily intimidated by the larger kittens and prefers to be carried around like one of those little purse dogs. He also has some litter box issues, but more than likely they are due to his small size. He needs to get bigger and gain some more confidence before he could be adopted out. I will update this as he gets larger. But for now, how could anyone resist this cute little guy?
Magic - ADOPTED
Magic is 9 weeks old. He is a short haired black and white male kitten. He loves to play and jump and run around the house. He is affectionate and active. He loves to play with other cats and kids. Magic's forever owner needs to be someone who is committed to keeping a really clean litter box because he will go outside the box if it is dirty. But keeping the litter box clean is a small price to pay for this fun loving guy.
Darcy
Darcy is my little girl. But don't let her small size fool you. Darcy is a feisty little girl. She is Julius' sister. She also had to learn to trust people. When she first came to me at 5 weeks of age, she was only 15 oz. It has taken a while, but she is finally at 2lbs. She is still very tiny though. Because of this she is a little skittish at times. She does not like being picked up or carried. That does not mean that she is not friendly and affectionate. It is quite the opposite in fact. She likes to come over and sit on your leg and be petted. She has quite the purr for such a small girl. I am sure that she will continue to get more confident as she continues to grow.
Julius - ADOPTED!
Julius is about 7 weeks old and male. He and his sister were found outside when they were about 5 weeks old. He came to my house to learn to be social with people. He has really come out of his shell since he arrived. He is good with our other kittens and children. Julius is affectionate and likes to be held and petted, but on his own terms. He is the type of cat that wants to come to you when he wants affection and to be left alone when he does not.
Arista - ADOPTED
Arista is a very sweet little girl. She wants nothing more than to sit on your lap and snuggle with you all the time. She does like the run and play with cat toys, but prefers it if you are playing with her. She is good with other cats and children. If you are looking for the ultimate lap kitten, she is the one for you.
Note: Arista will only eat Friskies chicken and gray wet food.
It took us a while to figure this out when she first came to us. She refused to eat what the other foster kittens eat and lost a lot of weight. Now that we have figured out the problem, she is gaining the weight back and doing fine. Most cats will eat anything if they get hungry rather than lose wieght and get sick. We now know that Arista is not one of those cats so her forever family will have to be one that is willing to give her the food she likes to eat.

Muffin - Finally ADOPTED!
Muffin is a 2 year old female cat. She was in foster with me while she raised her two kittens. She is the mother of Doyle and Domino. Her children have both already been adopted. She is now waiting at the shelter for her forever home.
She is a sweet, affectionate girl who loves attention and being petted. She is fine with cats and children. I do not know how she would do with a dog.

Griffin - ADOPTED
Griffin is about 10 weeks old. He is a male domestic short haired cat. His coat is gray and white. He was found in an abandoned church and was partly feral when he came to me. Because of this he does not really like other cats. He is OK with kids but would need to be the only cat in your household.
His fear of people is totally gone. In fact, he is very affectionate. His favorite thing is to be hugged and held and petted. He is very persistent when he wants you attention. If you are looking for a guy that loves to be with you and wants you all to himself, this is the one.
